GNAPH Call for Peace in Sudan
The Global Network for Academic Public Health (GNAPH) has been closely monitoring the conflict in Sudan. We know that hundreds of people have already died and thousands have been injured in the capital, Khartoum. According to the Sudanese American Physicians Association, “Out of 78 major hospitals in the country, only 55 are operational…. The health care system is about to collapse.” The situation threatens the public health system, which will be devastating for the physical and mental health of the Sudanese people.
While there is still some hope that this conflict can be resolved, GNAPH now calls for peace in Sudan. The impact of war is multigenerational and multinational, affecting not only the Sudanese people but also those in the surrounding countries in myriad ways now and into the future. We must not allow the situation to worsen and cause many more to die and suffer.
The purpose of GNAPH is to enhance academic public health worldwide through mutual learning and collaborations between academic public health institutions globally in order to improve and protect the health of people and the planet. GNAPH stands on the side of peace and with the people of Sudan.
We urge all parties to work together to end the conflict in Sudan to avoid a larger war and protect lives.
Peace is Public Health.
