Finding Hackathon
UTS Building 5C is part of the Haymarket precinct of the City campus, located on Quay Street within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) cluster. Completed in the mid-2010s during the university’s campus redevelopment, it features a contemporary glass-and-steel façade designed to complement the landmark FEIT Building (Building 11) nearby. Below you will find a downloadable campus map clearly identifying Building 5C, as well as step-by-step walking directions from key entrances (Central Station, Broadway, and The Goods Line walkway).
Directions from Central Station to Building 5
Exit Central at the South Concourse (Devonshire St exit). Walk through the Devonshire Street Tunnel toward Railway Square.
At the western end of the tunnel, follow signs to The Goods Line and go up to the walkway.
Immediately take the Thomas Street exit off The Goods Line (the access by UTS Building 6 / Peter Johnson Building).
At street level, turn left onto Quay Street.
Walk along Quay Street to UTS Building 5 (CB05), 1–59 Quay St. Enter Block C (5C) from the Quay Street side.
Directions from Ultimo Road to Building 5C
If you’re approaching UTS from the Ultimo Road side (for example, from George Street/Chinatown or Railway Square), here’s how to reach Building 5C:
- Start at Ultimo Road and Quay Street: From the Haymarket/Chinatown end (near Paddy’s Markets), head toward the corner where Ultimo Road meets Quay Street. Turn north onto Quay Street.
- Walk up Quay Street toward the Engineering precinct: Continue along Quay Street for a few minutes. On your left, opposite The Goods Line walkway, you’ll see the glass-and-steel façades of the UTS Engineering and IT buildings (5C and 5D).
- Find Building 5C: Building 5C is part of this cluster, facing Quay Street. Its contemporary façade is easy to spot beside older brick buildings further down the street.
- Enter via Quay Street entrance: Use the Quay Street entrance to access Building 5C. Inside you’ll find lifts and stairs leading to Level 2, where the Hackathon will take place.
Directions from The Goods Line Walkway to Building 5C
Many visitors and students also reach Building 5C via The Goods Line, the elevated pedestrian walkway that runs through the campus.
If you’re already on The Goods Line (from either the Powerhouse/Darling Harbour side or the Central/Devonshire Tunnel side):
Walk to the Thomas Street exit on The Goods Line. This is the stair/ramp access beside UTS’s Peter Johnson Building (CB06). Don’t continue to the “end” of the walkway.
Go down to street level and turn left onto Quay Street. (Thomas Street → left onto Quay Street.)
Walk 1–3 minutes along Quay Street. UTS Building 5 (CB05) runs along 1–59 Quay Street; Block C (5C) faces Quay Street opposite The Goods Line. Cross at the pedestrian lights to reach the entrance.
Enter via the Quay Street doors to Block C (Level 1 ground entry); lifts and stairs are just inside (Hackathon on Level 2).
