Organised as part of Global Public Health Week, this event, hosted by the Council of Academic Public Health Institutions Australasia – Early Career Academics (CAPHIA ECA), aims to provide practical strategies and celebrate achievements in shaping the knowledge and skills of early career and future public health professionals. The event will showcase the work of the CAPHIA ECA committee to inform and support other early-career academics and public health professionals interested in creating similar forums within their respective regions. The event will feature a hybrid format comprising a seminar and a virtual network meeting.
The seminar will commence by describing the essential functions and structures of a public health Early Career Academic committee, a group of passionate members who deliver programs, events, and services to support early-career academics (ECA), postgraduate, and higher degree research (HDR) students in public health, as well as early career public health professionals. Through insights from recent research conducted by the group, the seminar will highlight the key areas of interest and developmental needs of tomorrow’s public health workforce in Australasia. Attendees will gain valuable insights into impactful initiatives such as Catch-up Café networking events, informative blogs and an innovative webinar series, all designed to support the professional development of recent public health graduates and postgraduate students.
Following the seminar, the virtual network meeting will provide an extended platform for global engagement. Participants will be presented with key findings of the CAPHIA needs assessment, opening avenues for a comprehensive discussion on the support requirements of public health graduates and postgraduate students worldwide. This session will also facilitate the exchange of best practices for effective ECA committee operations, encouraging participants to share success stories and collaborate on strategies to guide the development of tomorrow’s public health workforce. Moreover, strategies for promoting equity within ECA and postgraduate public health circles will be discussed, fostering an inclusive environment conducive to developing future health leaders.
